Privacy Policy
paddi · Last updated: July 7, 2026
paddi ("paddi", "we", "us") helps people relocating to a new city find roommates and run a shared household together. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who can see it, and the choices you have. It applies to the paddi mobile app and paddiapp.com.
1. Information we collect
| Data | Where it comes from | Why we collect it |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | Sign-up | Account creation, sign-in codes, service messages |
| Name, photos, bio, interests, gender, roommate preferences, budget, move-in timing | Your profile | Your roommate profile and compatibility matching |
| Date of birth | Onboarding | Verifying you are 18 or older. Never shown to other users. |
| Listing details, including a street address you choose to add | Your pad / listing | Showing your place or group on the map and estimating nearby transit |
| Messages and join requests | Using the app | Delivering conversations between you and other users |
| Shared expenses, settlements, and an optional Venmo username | Household Hub | Keeping your household's informal ledger and enabling settle-up links |
| Reports and blocks | Safety tools | Enforcing our community rules |
| Usage analytics (screens viewed, feature events, device type) | Automatic | Understanding what to improve (PostHog) |
| Crash and error data | Automatic | Fixing bugs (Sentry) |
We do not collect your device's live location. When you type an address for a listing, we convert it to map coordinates ("geocoding") — that is the only location processing we do. We do not collect contacts, health data, or browsing history, and we do not run background checks.
2. What other users can see
- Public profile: your name, photos, bio, interests, gender, budget range, move-in timing, and neighborhood preferences are visible to other signed-in paddi users while your profile is set to public. You can set it to private in the app.
- Your date of birth and email are never shown to other users.
- Listings: a public listing shows an approximate map pin (deliberately offset by about a city block), neighborhood, price, photos, and member first names. The exact street address is visible only to members of that household.
- Household data: expenses, settlements, and Venmo usernames are visible only to members of your household.
- Blocking: when you block someone, you disappear from each other's browsing and neither of you can message the other.
3. How we use information
To operate the service (accounts, profiles, matching, messaging, listings, the household ledger), to keep the community safe (age verification, blocks, report review, fraud and abuse prevention), to understand aggregate usage, and to fix crashes and bugs. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
4. Service providers
| Provider | Role |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, authentication, and file storage (hosted in the United States) |
| Resend | Delivering sign-in code emails |
| PostHog | Product analytics |
| Sentry | Crash and error reporting |
| Cloudflare | Website hosting and DNS |
These providers process data only on our instructions. Settling up with a roommate opens the Venmo app or website; anything you do there is governed by Venmo's own terms and privacy policy — paddi never sees or holds your money.
5. Data retention and deletion
We keep your information while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time in the app: Profile → Account → Delete account. Deletion is immediate and permanent: your profile, photos, messages, notifications, and memberships are removed. Households you shared with others continue for the remaining members (ownership passes to them), and reports you filed may be retained in de-identified form for safety and legal purposes.
6. Security
All traffic is encrypted in transit (TLS). Access to data is enforced with row-level security in our database — for example, exact addresses and household finances are only readable by that household's members. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach affecting your data we will notify you as required by law.
7. Your rights
You can view and edit your profile data in the app, export or request a copy of your data, correct inaccuracies, or delete your account (above). Depending on where you live (for example, under the California Consumer Privacy Act or similar state laws), you may have additional rights such as access, portability, and non-discrimination. To exercise any right, email us — we respond within 30 days.
8. Age requirement
paddi is for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account, and we verify age at onboarding. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18; if we learn we have, we delete the account.
9. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect. The "Last updated" date above always reflects the current version.
